Werder Bremen visit Borussia Dortmund in the DFB Cup second round on Tuesday evening (20:45 CET, live on ZDF) – possibly without Niclas Füllkrug in the starting line-up. The 33-year-old scored both goals in the first half hour of Saturday's 3-2 win in Mainz but looked exhausted at the end and was substituted about ten minutes from time. “I was completely shattered and was waiting to be taken off,” Füllkrug said, according to buten un binnen.

There are only three days between the two games. Coach Daniel Thioune wants to keep the risk of overload low: “We want to minimise as much as possible the risk that he is out for longer because of overload.” The decision will be made at short notice: “In the end I will decide what is best for us on Tuesday evening.” According to buten un binnen, a role off the bench is possible.

Füllkrug has scored nine goals in eight competitive games this season. In the league game in Dortmund (2-2) he equalised in stoppage time. National coach Jürgen Klopp recently left open whether he will recall the striker for the Nations League games in November.
