GXO Logistics is expanding its use of humanoid robots: Agility Robotics' Digit is due to start work in early 2027 at GXO warehouses in Statesville, North Carolina, and Lebanon, Tennessee, handling repetitive tasks in e-commerce fulfilment. According to the companies, the rollout begins with Digit 4, to be followed by the Digit 5 generation unveiled in September once it is commercially available. The number of robots was not disclosed. GXO's video shows the humanoids at work.
The partnership began in late 2023 with a pilot at GXO's Flowery Branch site in Georgia, followed in 2024 by a multi-year robots-as-a-service agreement. There Digit places totes onto conveyors and, according to the companies, has moved more than 100,000 totes since 2024. Agility says Digit has logged more than 65,000 hours of real-world operation in total.
"Customers are moving beyond asking whether humanoid robots can work to deciding where they can scale them," said Agility CEO Peggy Johnson. Agility builds Digit at a factory in Salem, Oregon, with capacity for up to 10,000 robots a year, and plans to list on Nasdaq through a merger with Churchill Capital Corp XI.
