Assistant coach Aaron Danks, who is leading Bayern Munich while head coach Vincent Kompany is absent, spoke about a hospital visit at Tuesday's news conference before the German Cup game against Magdeburg. "He's in good spirits. It looks like it's getting better every day," said Danks, who visited Kompany in the clinic. Kompany is "very calm and is being given all the time he needs to recover," he added. They did not talk about soccer or tactics – instead, Kompany asked how they were doing.

The club gave no date for the 40-year-old's return. Captain Joshua Kimmich, who has been absent after a death in his family, will also miss the Magdeburg game. "We expect him to return this week," Danks said, meaning Kimmich could be available for Saturday's Bundesliga top game against Borussia Dortmund.

The second-round cup game against Magdeburg kicks off Wednesday at 20:45 local time at the Allianz Arena. Manuel Neuer, Jamal Musiala and Luis Díaz are out; Jonas Urbig will again start in goal.
