Romania's domestic intelligence service SRI said it had identified a sabotage network coordinated from the Russian Federation. It said the network was involved in a fire on Sept. 14, 2026, at an industrial site in Brasov next to Carfil, a subsidiary of state arms maker Romarm. The Russian link is the SRI's assertion, and no public evidence has been presented.
Romania's organised crime and terrorism prosecutors, DIICOT, are investigating three foreigners living in EU countries as suspects over attempted acts of sabotage; the Bucharest Court of Appeal issued European arrest warrants. Two of them were arrested in Germany while allegedly preparing similar acts, investigators said. A European arrest warrant was issued on Oct. 26 for the third suspect, who has been located in Poland. Romania is seeking their extradition. All are presumed innocent.
According to DIICOT, the suspects also had other targets in Romania and other EU states in their sights. The SRI said there had been other attempts this year against Romanian sites, including international military facilities and sites used to train Ukrainian troops.
