Following Israel's parliamentary election, the Greens in the Bundestag are pressing for a new push for peace in the Middle East. In a motion, the parliamentary group calls on the federal government to advocate new negotiations at EU level, actively involving women and civil society voices. The ongoing terror of Hamas cannot be defeated by military force, the paper says. At the same time, the Greens reaffirm Israel's right to exist and a two-state solution.

Specifically, the Greens want a complete halt to imports from Israeli settlements in the occupied territories, ideally EU-wide. Arms export restrictions should be reinstated, and the government should stop blocking a partial suspension of the EU Association Agreement. They call on the Palestinian Authority to hold timely elections and carry out democratic and rule-of-law reforms. They sharply criticise settlement construction by Benjamin Netanyahu's "still acting" government.
