Kottbusser Tor: 30 cameras from November – Spranger wants to stay interior senator

Berlin's interior senator Iris Spranger (SPD) wants to keep her job under a red-green-red coalition. AI-assisted video surveillance will play a role in the coalition talks, she says.

At Kottbusser Tor in Kreuzberg, 30 cameras at 15 locations are due to go into operation from early November. That is according to Interior Senator Iris Spranger (SPD), as reported by Tagesspiegel. She wants to keep her post in a possible coalition with the Left and Greens and expects AI-assisted video surveillance to be a topic in the coalition talks.

There is potential for conflict: in August, the Left and Greens filed a lawsuit against Berlin's new police law. Spranger counters: "After all, the Greens and the Left also have to guarantee security in Berlin." Union politicians from other states recently warned of a weakening of the Berlin police under a Left-led government and threatened judicial review proceedings.
