Israeli strikes in the Gaza Strip killed at least five people on Wednesday, according to Palestinian sources. A drone strike in Rafah in the south killed three people, said the civil defence agency, which operates under the Hamas administration. "Three people were killed and several others wounded, some of them seriously," spokesman Mahmoud Bassal told AFP. A hospital received three bodies and 15 wounded, one of whom later died.
According to Turkey's Anadolu agency, the strike in al-Mawasi hit a Gaza government checkpoint that monitors trucks entering via the Kerem Shalom crossing; the Palestinian agency WAFA said it hit an Economy Ministry facility. In Khan Younis, a man was killed in a drone strike on a rooftop, and in Jabalia in the north another man was shot dead. Anadolu reported a total of 32 injured. Asked by AFP, the Israeli military said: "We struck terrorists in the area."
The strikes came a day after Israel's parliamentary election, which produced no clear winner. Since the ceasefire began in October 2025, more than 1,500 people have been killed in Gaza, and more than 74,500 since the war began on Oct. 7, 2023, according to Gaza's health ministry. The UN considers the ministry's figures reliable.
