Telltale Games is releasing a remaster of its acclaimed crime adventure The Wolf Among Us on 29 October for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC. The game is based on the Fables comic series: Sheriff Bigby Wolf – the fairy tales’ “big bad wolf” – investigates a series of murders in Fabletown, a hidden community of fairy-tale characters in New York. It includes all five episodes of the 2013/14 original and, according to Gematsu, improved visuals, animation, resolution and frame rate, plus a reworked interface and better accessibility.
Early reviews are uniformly positive: OpenCritic’s critic average stands at 82, with every reviewer recommending the game; Metacritic lists 85 for the PS5 version. PlayStation LifeStyle awards 9 out of 10, praising an art style that has stood the test of time and a story that still grips. The standout addition is five playable deleted scenes – including an alternate ending – alongside making-of videos and concept art.
Criticism focuses on typical Telltale quirks such as textures loading late; some of the deleted scenes are unfinished. Other reviews listed on OpenCritic note that despite better performance, the game still feels like a product of the old Telltale engine and adds no new story content. For newcomers and returning players alike, the remaster is nonetheless seen as the definitive version – and as a primer for the sequel The Wolf Among Us 2, announced for 2027.
