Sofia City Court on Tuesday granted a prosecution request to question as witnesses former Interior Minister Boyko Rashkov, State Agency for National Security (SANS) chairman Plamen Tonchev, former Finance Minister Assen Vassilev and former SANS deputy chair Petar Petrov. Vassilev and Rashkov are summoned for the next hearing on Dec. 7.
The case is against former Prime Minister Kiril Petkov over actions during his term from December 2021 to August 2022. The request followed testimony by other witnesses that three of those named attended a meeting in Petkov's office where the arrest of GERB leader Boyko Borissov was discussed.
On Tuesday, National Security Service chief Gen. Emil Tonev testified, as did Petar Todorov, a Progressive Bulgaria lawmaker and former Interior Ministry chief secretary. Supervising prosecutor Angel Kanev said he would also seek to question Borissov and possibly businessman Vassil Bozhkov. Petkov is presumed innocent.
