Bayer Leverkusen avoided an early German Cup exit, coming from two goals down to beat second-division 1. FC Nürnberg 5-2 (1-2 at half-time) in the second round on Wednesday. Miroslav Klose's side deservedly led in front of 29,681 fans through Rafael Lubach around the 14th minute and Sigurd Haugen (30th).

Defender Edmond Tapsoba pulled one back from a corner shortly before the break (41st); the video assistant checked for a possible handball, but the goal stood. Coach Carles Martínez made three changes at half-time, bringing on Patrik Schick and Ibrahim Maza among others. Tapsoba levelled with a rebound after another corner (49th).

Schick converted a penalty in the 70th minute after being fouled in the box by Kalogeropoulos. Jonas Hofmann (78th) and Lucas Vázquez (89th) sealed Leverkusen's place in the round of 16. Nuremberg only kept pace for one half.
