A police officer has been injured during a traffic check in Berlin-Mariendorf. According to police, officers from precincts 41 and 44 tried to stop a driver on Steinhellenweg at around 9:20 p.m. on Tuesday who had allegedly committed several traffic offences. As officers approached the car, the driver reversed, drove over several bushes and hit a parked car.
To prevent him from escaping, an officer climbed onto the bonnet. According to police, the driver accelerated and then braked sharply – the officer fell to the ground and injured his leg. The car drove off. Shortly afterwards, officers found the alleged driver, a 19-year-old, at a hospital in Köpenick. He does not hold a valid driving licence.
The suspected vehicle and the suspect's mobile phone were seized. A specialist unit of Police Directorate 3 (East) has taken over the investigation.
