Lazio extended their winning run in emphatic fashion in Serie A's ninth round on Tuesday, thrashing Sassuolo 6-2 away to move clear at the top of the table for now. Gennaro Gattuso's side had been level with Inter Milan on 22 points before kickoff. Inter can draw level again with a win at Venezia on Wednesday.

Kenneth Taylor put Lazio ahead in the second minute before Kristian Thorstvedt equalised shortly afterwards. Gustav Isaksen and Romano Floriani Mussolini made it 3-1 by the 16th minute. According to the ANSA news agency, Thorstvedt was sent off in the 31st minute. Sebastiano Esposito pulled one back in the 43rd minute, but Mattia Zaccagni restored the two-goal cushion in first-half stoppage time to make it 4-2.

Dutch forward Tijjani Noslin then struck twice to make it 6-2. The margin could have been even bigger: Sassuolo goalkeeper Stefano Turati saved penalties from Zaccagni and Davide Frattesi. For Sassuolo, coached by Alberto Aquilani, it was a second straight defeat after a 2-0 loss at Como.
