Police have arrested a fourth suspect about seven months after a shooting in Berlin's Schöneberg district. The 20-year-old was detained in Darmstadt, where he was wanted on an arrest warrant, Berlin police and prosecutors said. He was in a car with three other people and tried to flee on foot, discarding a live firearm, according to police. Investigators found a second live weapon during subsequent searches. The three other occupants were briefly taken into custody and later released.

On the night of the shooting in March, a 38-year-old man was wounded in the lower body; police said he was treated in hospital and his life was not in danger. Investigators believe the suspects drove from the state of Hesse to Berlin, lured the man out of his apartment and shot at him. Three men aged 19, 20 and 21 were arrested in Darmstadt in late March, and arrest warrants were issued against them. All are presumed innocent.

The case is being handled by Ferrum, a special unit of Berlin's State Criminal Police Office set up in November 2025 to combat gun crime. In nearly a year it has opened 723 investigations, 483 of them gun-related, made 286 arrests and obtained 80 arrest warrants; 51 suspects are in custody. Extortion involving firearms is a key focus.
