A shot has been fired at an apartment door in Berlin for the second night in a row. According to police, a resident of an apartment building in the Lankwitz neighborhood (Steglitz-Zehlendorf district) heard a loud bang at around 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday and then found a hole in his closed front door. Officers found a bullet hole, the projectile and a cartridge case. No one was injured. A specialized unit of Police Directorate 4 (South) has taken over the investigation.

Only on Monday morning, a family in a residential building in Charlottenburg noticed a bullet hole in their apartment door at around 7:20 a.m. Police said officers found a second bullet hole in a refrigerator behind the door and a cartridge case in the stairwell. No one was hurt there either; a specialized unit of Police Directorate 2 (West) is investigating. It is not known whether the two incidents are connected. Police have so far given no information on possible suspects or motives.

The incidents add to a string of shootings in the German capital. According to figures confirmed by police, 585 offenses involving the use of firearms were recorded in the first half of 2026, including 324 threats and 261 shots fired, up from 561 cases in the same period a year earlier. The figures include blank, irritant-gas and flare guns. According to dpa, the special task force "Ferrum" has opened 708 investigations since November 2025.
