WBC champion Sebastian Fundora has picked Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez to beat Christian Mbilli. “Canelo has the edge in this one,” Fundora told DAZN, according to Boxing News 24. “Mbilli is a good fighter, a strong fighter, but for me, he’s too one-dimensional.”
Fundora pointed to Mbilli’s fight with Lester Martínez, which he felt Mbilli “kind of lost”. Officially, the bout ended in a draw, according to The Ring. In a commentary, Boxing News 24 questions Fundora’s view, arguing that Mbilli’s relentless pressure is a poor stylistic match for the 36-year-old Canelo.
Canelo himself said on The Pat McAfee Show, according to The Ring: “I’m going to need a lot of stamina for this fight, and to be prepared for whatever he brings.” The fight for Mbilli’s WBC super middleweight title takes place on October 31 in Riyadh. Fundora defends his WBC super welterweight title against Ermal Hadribeaj in Las Vegas on Saturday.
