Bulgaria's large reservoirs are fuller than at any time in the past eight years for this point in the season. Environment Ministry data reported by the BTA news agency showed them 64.81% full on Tuesday, holding 4,236.1 million cubic meters of water. That is more than 12% higher than in mid-October 2025. The ministry manages 52 major and complex reservoirs.
For power generation, mainly hydropower plants, 69.77% of the designated volume is available. Drinking water supply stands at 79.06% and irrigation at 49.46%. The figures are as of Oct. 13.
Heavy rain was forecast for the Rhodope Mountains and southeastern Bulgaria on Wednesday, with a yellow warning issued for 14 regions. River levels were expected to rise but to stay below warning thresholds. The ministry urged local authorities to apply flood risk management plans.
