Sony has announced a PlayStation 5 Digital Edition in Midnight Black. Both the casing and the bundled DualSense controller are fully black. The console costs 55,000 yen including tax in Japan and launches there on 19 November, with pre-orders opening at Japanese retailers on 20 October, according to Push Square. A matching black disc drive goes on sale separately on the same day.
The console is a variant of the discounted Japan-only model Sony introduced in November 2025. According to VGC, it can only be used with a PlayStation account set to the Japan region and with Japanese as the system language. Sony has not yet said whether the black version will be released in Europe or North America.
Outside Japan, PS5 owners can still change their console’s look with separately sold Midnight Black console covers. A DualSense controller in the same colour is also available.
