Liverpool coach Andoni Iraola has backed Florian Wirtz ahead of Wednesday's Champions League game at LASK (18:45 CEST). According to SPORT1, Iraola said he trusts the Germany international "100 per cent". Wirtz had performed well for the national team, he said, and would have better and worse games at Liverpool too.
The backdrop is criticism after the 0-3 defeat to Manchester City. Former player Jamie Carragher said on Sky that the transfer "isn't working and hasn't worked so far" and that Wirtz "must be taken out of the team". Iraola replied: "I would look at it more from a collective perspective."
For Germany, Wirtz scored in the 2-0 win over Serbia in early October under head coach Jürgen Klopp. In November the national team plays its last two Nations League group games.
