+ Pros

  • Resident Evil 4 mostly runs at 60 frames per second
  • Lots of content: RE4 with Separate Ways, RE2 with bonus content
  • Weighty combat, with gyro aiming in RE4
  • Plays well in handheld mode too

– Cons

  • Lower resolution, aliased hair
  • Occasional texture pop-in
  • Resident Evil 3 is thin, with content cut
  • No gyro aiming in Resident Evil 2

Critics' verdict

Strong portable versions of Resident Evil 2 and 4 – the third game remains the weakest remake on Switch 2 as well.

Summary of published reviews – sources below.

The Resident Evil 2, 3 and 4 remakes launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on 16 October, digitally on the eShop. Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition includes the Separate Ways bonus campaign starring Ada Wong and costs £44.99 in the UK, Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition £34.99 and Resident Evil 3 £24.99.

Nintendo Life gives Resident Evil 4 a 9 out of 10, calling it the gold standard for modern remakes. Combat feels weighty, gyro aiming is supported, and the game runs at a largely stable 60 frames per second. The visuals take a hit: lower resolution, shimmering hair caused by DLSS upscaling and occasional texture pop-in. Nintendo Everything mainly criticises messy image quality early on in handheld mode.

Resident Evil 2 also scores 9/10; it targets 60 frames per second but lacks gyro controls. Resident Evil 3, by contrast, only manages 6/10: the port is good, but the remake itself remains weak – the pursuer Nemesis appears almost only in scripted scenes, parts of the original such as the clock tower are missing, and there are no bonus modes.
