Pressure is mounting on VfB Stuttgart after a 3-2 home loss to Borussia Mönchengladbach, which had not earned a point before Friday. It was Stuttgart's fifth defeat in seven Bundesliga games, while the club has seven points in the Champions League. Coach Sebastian Hoeneß called it a “big warning shot.” “Before we look at the table, it's now about recognizing that,” he said. “Every single one of us has the responsibility to draw the right conclusions.”
“That has to be worked through, it's on everyone's mind,” sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth said. “That was a low point in the league. It's a signal to everyone.” Ermedin Demirović, who scored both Stuttgart goals, said: “Everyone should take a hard look at themselves and ask whether they give everything in the moments when it gets difficult.”
Stuttgart is 15th with six points (as of Saturday). On Wednesday, the team plays at SC Paderborn in the second round of the German Cup. Paderborn beat Hamburg on Saturday. “We're not going to Paderborn to show off,” Demirović said. Stuttgart then plays at Bayer Leverkusen in the league on Saturday.
