Spanish energy group Acciona Energía has commissioned two new wind farms in Croatia. The Opor farm in Split-Dalmatia County has six turbines totaling 27 megawatts, while Boraja II in Šibenik-Knin County has 10 turbines with 45 megawatts. They use Nordex turbines of 4.5 megawatts each on 105-meter steel towers.

According to the company, the two farms are expected to generate about 203 gigawatt hours of electricity a year and avoid about 135,000 tons of CO2 annually. The power is fed in through Croatian energy market operator HROTE. The projects received 12-year contracts for difference awarded in a public auction; the support scheme was approved by the European Commission. Such contracts secure a reference price for the electricity.

Up to 400 people worked on the construction sites at peak. Acciona now operates 102 megawatts of wind power in Croatia, including the Jelinak farm since 2013. Next, the company is developing the Promina solar plant in Šibenik-Knin with a peak capacity of 189 megawatts.
