Ajax Amsterdam lost 2-1 at Hajduk Split on Thursday night at the start of the Conference League league phase. Germany goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen was in goal, and Germany internationals Thilo Kehrer and Julian Brandt were also in the starting line-up. Abdoulie Sanyang put Hajduk ahead in the 37th minute, Davy Klaassen equalised in the 53rd minute from a Kehrer cross – only around two minutes later Marin Šotiček scored the winner.

In the 77th minute the referee sent both teams off the pitch because thick smoke from pyrotechnics in the fan section blocked the view. After around a quarter of an hour play resumed at the Poljud stadium, with no change to the score. According to ran, ter Stegen could do nothing about either goal.

It was a bitter night for the Germany goalkeeper at the start of his European campaign. The video highlights come from the YouTube channel RTL Sport.
