Data as of: Xetra closing prices Thursday, 15 October 2026; as of about 07:25 CEST on Friday, 16 October

DAX (Thursday)25,382.62pts +0.33 %
MDAX (Thursday)30,216.43pts +0.55 %
Euro Stoxx 50 (Thursday)6,168.26pts −0.36 %

The DAX benchmark index (Germany's 40 largest listed companies) closed Thursday 0.33% higher at 25,382.62 points on Xetra, after trading clearly lower in the morning. The MDAX (mid-caps) gained 0.55% to 30,216.43. The SDAX (small caps) fell 1.07% to 17,981.40 and the TecDAX (technology stocks) 0.66% to 3,970.39. The Euro Stoxx 50, the eurozone benchmark, fell 0.36% to 6,168.26. Zurich and London rose 1.6% and 1.1% respectively.

Markets in Asia and the US again sold shares of companies that benefit from artificial intelligence (AI). South Korea's Kospi fell about 7.6%. The DAX contains few such stocks and therefore held up well. Bond markets offered relief: according to dpa-AFX, the yield on 10-year US Treasuries fell from almost 5.4% to just over 5%, easing fears of higher interest rates.

Chipmaker Infineon was the worst DAX performer, down 5.2%. Hochtief (−3.6%) and Siemens Energy (−2.2%) also fell; both are seen as beneficiaries of data centre construction. Scout24, Rheinmetall and Zalando led the gainers; the reports reviewed gave no reason. In the MDAX, chip stocks such as Aixtron slumped by up to almost 13%. Flatexdegiro rose 5.5% after announcing a share buyback of up to €100 million. Drägerwerk's preferred shares fell 17.4% after weak quarterly results.

On Friday, final eurozone consumer prices for September are due at 11:00. In the US, import and export prices (14:30) and industrial production (15:15) follow. The EU summit in Brussels ends. On Thursday the ECB reference rate for the euro was 1.1208 dollars.

Only 29,000 new US jobs in September: investors now see little chance of a Fed rate hike this month. Tech stocks led the gains.
