Hoffenheim's slump deepened on Thursday as Christian Ilzer's side lost 3-2 at home to Besiktas in Sinsheim on the second matchday of the Europa League league phase. After a goalless first half, Murillo put the visitors ahead in the 60th minute before Fisnik Asllani equalized. South Korean forward Oh Hyeon-gyu then scored twice, in the 72nd and 79th minutes, and Koki Machida's late goal only cut the deficit. Former Bundesliga goalkeeper Alexander Nuebel started for the Istanbul club.

Following a 2-0 defeat at OFI Crete in their opener, Hoffenheim remain without a point in the competition. "I'm angry, we conceded three goals," goalkeeper Oliver Baumann said, according to Bundesliga.com. Hoffenheim have one win and four defeats from five Bundesliga games and play at Borussia Moenchengladbach on Sunday.

Bundesliga leaders Freiburg fared better, beating Czech side Jablonec 3-2 in the Conference League. Vincenzo Grifo scored early, and after an own goal by Matthias Ginter and another by Jablonec, Maximilian Eggestein made it 3-1 before Jablonec pulled one back in stoppage time. Julian Schuster's side play at Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga on Sunday.
