According to Bandai Namco, Tales of Eternia Remastered launches on 16 October for PlayStation 5 and 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch, and PC. According to GamerFuzion, the Steam version unlocks on the evening of 15 October US time. According to Push Square, the remaster of the PlayStation RPG offers a new English translation with a new dub, the original Japanese voices – missing from the earlier PlayStation and PSP versions – and fully voiced skits. Graphics and sound can be toggled between remastered and original.
On OpenCritic the game scores 76. Push Square gives it 7 out of 10, saying the story and party dynamics still hold up and the new dub is lively. Reviewers praise the comfort features that reduce or switch off random encounters and multiply experience points. Siliconera awards 8 out of 10 on Switch 2 and calls the plot one of its favourites in the series.
Reviews see weaknesses in the 2D combat, which feels rigid and gets cluttered in busy fights, and in the visibly dated graphics. Siliconera criticises imprecise minigames and at times unclear dungeon design. GamerFuzion also reports that on both Switch consoles the analogue stick does not handle diagonal movement properly – no patch has been announced so far.
