Nvidia said on Wednesday it will provide $250 million worth of computing resources over five years, or about $50 million a year, for research into the safety and security of AI agents in Britain. The commitment is a donation of compute rather than cash. Most of it will go to the wider UK research community, with dedicated support for the Oxford-led BOLD lab, UCL's SOFAIR lab for open AI architectures and Imperial College London.
The research will cover secure agents, open-model security and real-world threat mitigation, including sandboxed test environments and safety benchmarks. The compute will be delivered through UK-based Nvidia cloud partners; the company said provider selection, technical architecture and commercial terms have yet to be agreed.
"AI capability and safety must advance together," Nvidia Chief Executive Jensen Huang said. Britain's AI minister Kanishka Narayan called the pledge "a vote of confidence in our world-leading strength and expertise in AI research."
