Energie Cottbus are sweating on the fitness of captain Axel Borgmann ahead of Friday's 2. Bundesliga top game against 1. FC Nuremberg. Borgmann missed the final training session. Coach Claus-Dieter Wollitz said Borgmann had been substituted with a muscle problem last week and has trouble with his thigh. Whether he will be fit by Friday remains open.
Kickoff is at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16, at the LEAG Energie Stadion, the club's first Friday-night home game since returning to the second division. Nuremberg arrive unbeaten in second place with the league's best attack, while Cottbus have conceded the most goals. "It will be a real slog," Wollitz said. Erik Engelhardt is ruled out.
After the defeat at Darmstadt, Wollitz mainly lamented his side's finishing. New to the squad is full-back Leon Guwara, who will wear No. 25 and is eligible to play immediately. Wollitz is counting on the crowd: "The fans can be the 12th man."
