Meta releases open-weight AI model that runs on two Apple Mac Studios
Muse Spark Open has 816 billion parameters and can be downloaded. Working with Apple, Meta made sure the model can also run locally on Apple computers instead of in the cloud.

Meta on Thursday released Muse Spark Open, an artificial intelligence model whose weights are freely downloadable. The company says it is the most capable open-weight model from the United States. It has 816 billion parameters, 42 billion of which are active per request, handles text and images and supports a context window of up to one million tokens. It is aimed mainly at coding and at AI agents that carry out multistep tasks on their own.
In an unusual tie-up with rival Apple, Meta says the model runs on two Mac Studios with M5 Ultra chips linked through Apple's MLX software, giving roughly a terabyte of shared memory. That lets developers run it on their own hardware rather than on remote servers. Meta cited bug fixes for a Mastodon app and video editing in DaVinci Resolve as examples.
The model can be downloaded from Hugging Face, Amazon, Google Cloud and Microsoft, among others, and several cloud providers offer it through an API. It is released under Meta's own license, which limits commercial use. Meta said a full safety evaluation report would follow soon and that the model met its internal thresholds for release.
