AS Monaco started the Conference League with a 2-1 (2-0) win at CSKA Sofia – and Paris Brunner was the man of the night. The Germany U21 international tapped in the opener as early as the 3rd minute and set up Ansu Fati's 2-0 with a square pass in the 43rd. Joel Zwarts pulled one back in the 76th minute for the hosts, who are coached by German Markus Gisdol.

According to SPORT1 it was Brunner's first competitive match since 18 September after he had been suspended for a goal celebration gesture; it was his seventh competitive goal in eight appearances. He remains suspended for Monaco's Ligue 1 match this weekend. “The most important thing was getting the win in our first game here in Sofia,” Brunner told the club website.

National coach Jürgen Klopp called Brunner a big talent in September; the forward has yet to play for the senior national team.
