Stellantis has too much production capacity in Europe but does not want to close plants, CEO Antonio Filosa said. "We have excess production capacity, especially in Europe, but we do not want to shut plants," he said on Oct. 13 at the Paris Automotive Summit during the motor show, Euronews reported. Instead, plants will be shared, including with Chinese partners Leapmotor and Dongfeng, and production in Europe is possible.
In an interview with Bloomberg TV, Filosa called separating the European and U.S. brands "not plausible at all" because the 14 brands share technology. Selling Maserati is "not at all" under consideration either. The group has "already crossed the point to be profitable again," he said, according to Just Auto.
The FaSTLAne 2030 strategic plan foresees investment of 60 billion euros, 40% of it in technology shared across brands, according to Euronews. The new global STLA One platform will debut with Peugeot. On the revision of EU CO2 rules, Filosa urged a quick agreement: "We all agree on 90 per cent of the issues."
