Hamburger SV captain Nicolai Remberg has torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and will be sidelined for several months, the Bundesliga club said on Sunday. An MRI scan confirmed the initial suspicion after he was hurt in Saturday's 3-2 win at Hoffenheim. The 26-year-old requires surgery.
Remberg was substituted injured after 41 minutes in Sinsheim, and his replacement Miro Muheim went on to score the late winner. "It is a bitter moment for him personally and for us as a team," coach Merlin Polzin said, according to the club.
The midfielder joined from Holstein Kiel for the 2025-26 season and was named captain for this season. His absence is a heavy blow for the club.
