A drone attack overnight into Sunday damaged Russian tech group Yandex's data centre in Vladimir, east of Moscow, forcing operations to be fully suspended, the company said. No one was hurt. Yandex Cloud said remaining resources were unstable and the platform was running in emergency mode, TASS reported.
The outage hit the ru-central1-a cloud zone. Monitoring channels reported disruptions to more than 80 cloud services, from databases to the YandexGPT model interface, as well as the Alice voice assistant, Yandex Music and the Telemost video service. Regional governor Alexander Avdeyev confirmed a fire; two substations went offline, leaving about 5,000 people without power.
It is the third reported strike on a major Yandex data centre since Thursday, after Sasovo in the Ryazan region and the Kaluga region. Responsibility for the Vladimir attack has not been officially confirmed. On Friday, President Volodymyr Zelensky described a strike on a Russian data centre as a "symmetrical response" to attacks on Ukrainian digital infrastructure.
