German Economy and Energy Minister Katherina Reiche of the CDU is in Saudi Arabia seeking new energy routes and reliable supply relationships. She told Reuters that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz had largely cut off a key route for oil and gas, ZDFheute reported.
Saudi Arabia has repaired a pipeline to the Red Sea and plans another through Iraq. Reiche also wants to attract investment in power grids, storage and renewable energy, which should gradually make Germany less dependent on fossil fuel imports.
