OpenAI released an update for “Dots” on October 9 – the always-on AI agents that the company introduced at its DevDay developer conference at the end of September and that can be launched from ChatGPT or Codex. New dots can now be created directly in the ChatGPT app for iOS and Android, where users name their agent, customize its appearance and connect plugins.
Dots can also start work in Codex, OpenAI's coding tool, or continue existing Codex threads. They draw on ChatGPT conversations, Codex threads and automations, and according to OpenAI they are better at deciding whether to continue an existing thread or start a new one. The agents can now also review and edit scheduled tasks in ChatGPT Work.
Smaller improvements include faster cloud browsing, fewer unnecessary notifications, easier Outlook setup and more reliable access for Enterprise customers on the web and in voice calls. According to TechCrunch, Dots themselves are so far only available to Pro and Business Premium users in eligible markets. OpenAI did not say which plans get the new features or when they will reach all users.
