A clear winner is emerging at the North American box office this weekend. Rob Savage's horror film "Other Mommy" earned $3.6 million from Thursday night previews, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Jessica Chastain plays a dual role: a mother and the eerie entity that wears her face. The film from Universal, Blumhouse and Atomic Monster is playing in about 3,200 theaters and is based on Josh Malerman's novel "Incidents Around the House".

Aaron Sorkin's Facebook drama "The Social Reckoning" got off to a much weaker start. It took only about $650,000 in previews and is playing on around 2,600 screens. Weekend projections range from $4 million to $10 million. Reports put its production cost at $30 million to $40 million, and it stands at 59 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

According to the reports, "Other Mommy" cost around $19 million, and Universal is hoping for an opening of about $20 million. Critics are unimpressed: on Rotten Tomatoes the film sits below 20 percent positive reviews. Boxoffice Pro projects $17 million to $22 million for "Other Mommy" and $15 million to $20 million for "Verity", which opened with $32 million, in its second weekend.
