Nvidia has announced commitments valued at $1 billion for US science over the next five years. The company announced the commitment on October 8 at the “Science: A New Golden Age” event in Washington. According to Nvidia, the focus is on research and development of “superintelligence” in quantum computing, healthcare and energy security.

The money is to go to research institutions at US universities, quantum computing projects and cloud providers that support US government missions. Nvidia is also a collaborator on several phase 2 projects of the “Genesis Mission,” the Trump administration's research initiative, covering quantum computing, fusion, accelerator design and microelectronics. For the US Department of Energy, Nvidia is building the department's largest scientific supercomputer at Argonne National Laboratory and supporting seven new systems at Argonne and Los Alamos.

“President Trump's Genesis Mission is launching a new golden age of American discovery,” said Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, adding that this is how America turns scientific leadership into industrial leadership. Nvidia also invited the science community to carry out research on its compute and AI infrastructure.
