The Left, the Greens and the Social Democrats plan to continue exploratory talks on a red-green-red coalition in Berlin on Sunday and Monday. Berlin SPD leader Steffen Krach said there were no concrete solutions yet on the budget. Krach has made a coalition conditional on the Left's leadership prevailing against antisemitic positions.
Saturday's "United4Palestine" demonstration added fresh tension. Neukölln Left lawmaker Vanessa Emde, who had called for people to attend, took part, according to Bild as cited by Tagesspiegel. Her possible exclusion from the Left's future caucus in the state parliament is already under discussion.
Police said about 3,500 people marched from the Chancellery to Alexanderplatz, and a police spokesperson called the protest "largely free of disruptions." A single-digit number of people were briefly detained, over anti-constitutional symbols and slogans inciting hatred. The Left's national executive welcomed the talks, saying: "The Left is not an antisemitic party."
