After unusually warm days, the weather in Bulgaria is turning sharply. On Sunday, eastern Bulgaria will still see highs of 27 to 29 degrees Celsius with moderate to strong southerly winds, while the west will have heavy cloud, rain that is locally intense at times, and thunderstorms, with highs of 20 to 22 degrees, state broadcaster BNT reported. Mountain areas in the west may see significant rainfall.
Overnight into Monday, a cold front will move across the country from west to east, bringing brief, at times intense showers and thunderstorms in many places, along with strengthening northwesterly winds and colder air. Monday's highs will be 17 to 22 degrees.
After a short break, rain will return to many areas on Tuesday and Wednesday, with a higher chance of heavy rainfall in central and eastern Bulgaria. The cooling will continue, with Wednesday lows of 5 to 10 degrees and highs of 11 to 16.
