Russia attacked Kyiv with drones and ballistic missiles on Saturday. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said six people were injured, including at a restaurant, and an energy facility was damaged, causing water supply problems. Grid operator Ukrenergo said most consumers in Kyiv were without electricity.

Attacks on energy infrastructure are also part of the diplomacy. U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff described "constructive talks" with Ukrainian negotiators in Miami on short-term winter aid, including for energy infrastructure and grain exports. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy offered to halt attacks on Russian refineries if Russia stopped striking Ukrainian energy facilities.

The attack came a day after the United States announced it was temporarily lifting sanctions on Russian diesel. Zelenskiy sharply criticised the deal, calling it neither fair nor honest.
