Three games, three goal involvements: Wirtz finds form at Liverpool – Brighton next

Florian Wirtz has, for now, answered the criticism of recent weeks at Liverpool. According to Sky Sports, the Germany international has scored or assisted in each of his last three competitive games – all wins in the Champions League and Premier League. After a poor display against Manchester City, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher had argued that Wirtz should be dropped.
Coach Andoni Iraola praised his performance in the win away at LASK in particular, but sounded weary of being asked about Wirtz almost every day. Sky Sports still sees questions over midfield balance, as Liverpool are vulnerable on the counter without a dedicated holding midfielder when Wirtz plays as a No 10.
On Sunday at 14:00 GMT Liverpool host Brighton & Hove Albion at Anfield. For Germany, Wirtz started under Klopp in the last game, the 0-0 in Greece; the next internationals are in Serbia on 13 November and against the Netherlands on 16 November.
