Bruno Pavlovsky, president of Chanel's fashion activities and president of Chanel SAS, has been appointed co-chair of The Fashion Pact, Luxury Tribune and FashionUnited report. He will lead the coalition together with Inditex CEO Óscar García Maceiras and Paul Polman, the pact's co-founder and former Unilever chief executive. The appointment comes a few days after Pavlovsky announced his departure from Chanel's board of directors. Since 2022 he has also been president of the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode.
The Fashion Pact was launched in 2019 on the initiative of François-Henri Pinault, following a request from French President Emmanuel Macron at the G7 summit in Biarritz. By its own account it brings together around 60 companies with more than 160 brands – over a third of the fashion industry. Its focus areas are biodiversity, low-impact raw materials, decarbonising production and renewable energy. In the current phase, existing commitments are to be turned into concrete action with a view to 2027.
The steering committee is also changing: new members are Gildo Zegna, executive chairman of Ermenegildo Zegna Group, and Pier Paolo Righi, CEO of Karl Lagerfeld. Leaving in a regular rotation are Gerald J. Corbae of NoaBrands, who stays on as a non-voting adviser, and Laurent Milchior of Groupe Etam, who will continue to represent smaller companies. Chanel itself is aiming for net-zero emissions by 2040; in 2025 its indirect Scope 3 emissions fell by ten per cent, according to Luxury Tribune.
