Niclas Füllkrug led Werder Bremen to a 3-2 win at Mainz 05 on Saturday. The 33-year-old converted two penalties in the 7th and 25th minutes and now tops the Bundesliga scoring chart with eight goals. According to SPORT1, he has scored in six consecutive league games – a feat previously achieved at Bremen only by Rudi Völler in 1982/83.

Head coach Jürgen Klopp had told DAZN during the week that Füllkrug scores goal after goal but is 33. On ZDF's Sportstudio the striker said: "We have ushered in a new era in Germany, we want to be young and dynamic." He added: "I understand that if that is the case. And if not, we can still react." Age, he said, had "never been an issue" in his career.

When he was substituted in the 81st minute, Füllkrug vented towards the bench; according to SPORT1 he told Sky he had been exhausted. The video highlights come from the YouTube channel Bundesliga.
