Brandt on Klopp's Germany: 'For me, the national team is heading in the right direction'

Ajax's Julian Brandt, without a Germany cap since November 2024, likes the team's new style. He is scoring regularly in the Netherlands – and Ajax travel to Rotterdam on Sunday.

Julian Brandt is following the national team under head coach Jürgen Klopp with keen interest. "For me, the national team is heading in the right direction," the 30-year-old said on the "Spielmacher" podcast, according to SID. He praised the forward attacking, quick shots after winning the ball and direct play into the box. "I follow it very, very, very, very gladly," Brandt said, adding: "I believe we are on a good path."

Brandt has won 48 caps and scored three goals; his most recent Germany appearance was in November 2024. For Ajax Amsterdam he has scored six times in nine Eredivisie games. On Sunday (16:45 CET) Ajax play at Sparta Rotterdam.

Klopp called up 44 players for his first four matches. For the Nations League games in Serbia on 13 November and against the Netherlands on 16 November he has announced a much smaller squad – but told RTL: "The door is open to everyone."
