The European Parliament convenes in Strasbourg on Monday at 16:00 for a plenary week that runs until Thursday at 18:00. The Socialists and Democrats (S&D) group names the re-election of its group president and the Circular Economy Act among the key topics of the week.

In the background, the dispute over the next long-term EU budget continues. "Like it or not, the EU Parliament is the budgetary authority," the S&D group wrote. The EU could not demand more while cutting the budget, it argued, calling new own resources the solution.

The Socialists also oppose any weakening of methane rules after the Commission presented its Methane Omnibus proposal on 14 October. For the 2026 Sakharov Prize, the S&D has nominated the International Criminal Court and its officials.
