By-elections: Malorad and Yavorovo head to runoffs alongside presidential vote

In Malorad the Agrarian Union and Bulgarian Voice candidates face off, in Yavorovo those of Vazrazhdane and GERB. In Dragomazh, the DPS candidate wins outright.

The village of Malorad in the Vratsa region will choose its mayor in a runoff on 25 October, the same day as the first round of the presidential election. According to published results, Svetoslav Georgiev of the Agrarian People's Union received 335 votes and Martin Dilovski of Bulgarian Voice 272. Turnout was 59.19%, with 834 of 1,409 voters casting ballots. The vote was needed after the previous mayor's mandate was terminated following a final court sentence.

There will also be a runoff in Yavorovo near Stara Zagora, where turnout was close to 82% and Stanimir Stoychev of Vazrazhdane faces Zhecho Zhechev of GERB. In Dragomazh near Isperih, sole candidate Nurgin Basri of the DPS won with 101 votes on a 41.67% turnout.

In Polski Trambesh municipality, Rosen Rusanov was the only candidate; the vote was held because the previous mayor had become an MP. In Maslarevo, the race between the BSP–United Left and PP–DB candidates remained undecided into the early hours of Monday. By-elections were held in 14 places in total.
