Apple unveils HomeView smart home hub – Germany left out for now

The $299 display with face recognition will not be sold in the EU because Siri AI is unavailable there. Apple also launched a 349-euro Apple TV 4K and a 169-euro HomePod mini 2.

Apple on Tuesday unveiled HomeView, its own smart home hub. The device with a 7-inch display comes as a countertop model with a speaker and as a wall-mounted version, both priced at $299. It recognizes up to six household members by face and shows them personalized content, controls lights, thermostats, locks and cameras, and relies mainly on the new Siri AI assistant. Pre-orders are open in the U.S., Britain, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and India, with deliveries starting Nov. 13.

HomeView will not be sold in the EU for now because Siri AI is currently not available there on iOS. According to ComputerBase, Apple said it is working constructively with the EU to find a solution. Whether and when the device will reach Germany is unclear.

The other new products are available in Germany: the Apple TV 4K with the A19 chip costs 349 euros and arrives Nov. 13 – though in Germany with the old Siri. The HomePod mini 2 with the S10 chip costs 169 euros and launches Oct. 30. Both can be pre-ordered now.
