Floyd Schofield has won the vacant WBA lightweight title. The unbeaten American (20-0) beat previously undefeated Canadian Lucas Bahdi by unanimous decision in Chicago (116-110, 119-108, 115-111). Schofield floored Bahdi with a left hook in round three; Bahdi was credited with a knockdown in round 11, although the fighters' feet had tangled, according to Boxing News 24.

It was Schofield's first fight in 469 days. "We came into the fight knowing Lucas is a hard puncher. Not gonna lie, hats off to Lucas," he said, according to NY Fights. Bahdi (now 20-1) was gracious in defeat: "I got no excuses. He's a great fighter, young kid, and congratulations."

The title was vacant because the WBA had made Gervonta Davis 'champion in recess'. Schofield now wants to unify: WBO champion Abdullah Mason was named as an option, while according to NY Fights the most attractive would be an all-Golden Boy fight with WBC champion William Zepeda.
