South Korean director Bong Joon Ho ('Parasite') will release his first animated feature in summer 2027. Production company Barunson C&C said 'Ally' opens in South Korea in July 2027; in France it hits cinemas on July 14, 2027. Bong has been working on the project since 2018, and it is his first film since 'Mickey 17' (2025).
The story centres on curious deep-sea creatures in an underwater canyon. The young sea creature Ally dreams of seeing the sun. When a plane crashes into the ocean, Ally sets off with friends towards the surface. The voice cast includes Ayo Edebiri, Bradley Cooper, Dave Bautista, Finn Wolfhard and Werner Herzog.
Bong co-wrote the screenplay with Jason Yu ('Sleep'), and crews from 12 countries worked on the production. CJ ENM will distribute in South Korea, Pathé in France, Benelux and Switzerland, and Neon in the US. No German release date has been announced.
