Sandro Wagner's first competitive match as Hannover 96 head coach ended in a heavy defeat. On matchday seven of 2. Bundesliga, Hannover lost 3-0 at 1. FC Magdeburg on Saturday. Wagner was appointed head coach in September.

The start could hardly have been worse: in the third minute Franz Roggow overlooked Moritz-Broni Kwarteng with a square pass and the ball bounced past goalkeeper Leo Weinkauf into the net. Emmanuel Iyoha made it 2-0 on the half-hour, and Mateusz Żukowski sealed it in the 86th minute, set up by Felipe Chávez.

The result ends a strong run for Hannover, who according to the club had won all four previous visits to Magdeburg with a 12-1 goal tally. Magdeburg, who opened the season with a 6-1 loss to Braunschweig, now have 13 points from seven games.
