Paramount has made "Smile 3" official, with David Bruckner, known for "The Ritual", "The Night House" and the 2022 "Hellraiser" reboot, set to direct. Nick Antosca ("The Act", "Antlers") is writing the script from a framework by Parker Finn, Variety first reported. Finn, who wrote and directed the first two films, remains on board as a producer alongside Temple Hill.
Finn is instead directing a remake of the 1981 cult horror film "Possession" for Paramount, starring Callum Turner and Margaret Qualley and slated for June 2027. Neither cast nor release date has been set for "Smile 3". Like the sequel, the new film is to tell a standalone story with new lead characters.
According to Variety, "Smile" (2022) grossed $217 million worldwide, while "Smile 2" (2024) took $139 million on a $28 million budget. Together the two films have earned more than $350 million.
